The Child Advocacy Center’s New Home
In September 2008, due to damage from Tropical Storm Faye, the Center was forced to relocate from our building donated by local benefactors to a rented space. The community supported our unexpected move with a huge outpouring of support in the way of furniture, décor, treats for our staff and encouraging sentiments. While our new home fits us well, the expense of rent and utilities is one we haven’t been faced with in the past. Having a child-friendly environment and adequate space for our staff to provide services on a daily basis is vital to the mission of the CAC.

Please consider donating to the Child Advocacy Center. Each dollar of your donation will assist us in keeping the doors open for the more than 500 children, non-offending family members, and siblings we serve on a daily basis. With your help, we can meet our goal of serving the nearly 5,000 children reportedly abused in Alachua County each year.

Forensic Interviewing and Case Management

Each time we receive an allegation of abuse or neglect we bring together the child, caregiver, and investigating agencies for a Forensic Interview conducted by our specially trained interviewer. The children are treated to a snack and a juice and the family has an opportunity to sit with a case manager and therapist to ensure their needs are met.

After the interview, each child picks out a toy, book or blanket provided to us through generous donors. Often times, the family is also in need of immediate assistance with securing food, gasoline, and even clothing. Our case management staff does their best to provide information and assistance in these cases.

If you would like to donate to the Forensic Interview or Case Management programs please consider donating items such as toys, juice, snacks, and especially gift cards for teens, gas stations, grocery stores, and general use for our families.

Play Therapy

The CAC is fortunate to be able to uniquely provide Play Therapy to the children we serve and offer therapeutic services to their non-offending family members and siblings. Play Therapy uses the language of children – Play – to help with healing. Play therapy allows the therapist to create a special, child-friendly environment with therapeutic games and toys creating a comfortable place for children to deal with feelings. Because of the volume of children served by our Center every year, we often have a wait-list for therapy. The unique Play Therapy techniques employed by our therapists significantly improve the traumatic symptoms left when children are abused or severely neglected. This includes nightmares, bed wetting, and school related behavioral issues. Intervening and providing therapy at an early age also helps to break the cycle of violence in our community.

Please consider supporting the therapy program through the items listed to the right and through financial contributions to the therapy department.
